Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 4:49PM Business needn't necessarily be boring: Glimpse the scene as Rupert Murdoch gets a pie in the face.
You'd have to live under a rock to not know that Rupert Murdoch and his firm, News Corp, is in trouble for ostensibly having employees act in an unethical, journalistically unjustified manner--it's possible even that laws were broken in the UK and potentially the U.S. Only time and the inquiry process will tell the whole story. In the meantime, Mr. Murdoch is on the spot to defend is firm's conduct to a host of regulators and law enforcement entities.
So, last Tuesday when he was defending this company by testifying in London to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, he was "pie-ed"--quite literally and to everyone's complete surprise--by a then little known but now widely notorious Brit comedian, one Johnnie Marbles.
The shock of it all is told on the faces of the on-lookers.
The photo of the incident tells the story of what it was like. While it only shows the back of Mr. Murdoch, you see the dumb-founded gasping of on-lookers, the mouth-gaping awe of panel members, and--this is the best part--his wife Wendi Deng Murdoch leaping to his defense.
I meet people all the time who think that being in business is boring--and, let's face it, a lot of times it is. But if you think about it, what field doesn't have it's dull moments, or minutes, or days?? However, you have to agree, on this occasion it was not lacking for interest--or a wife of substance.
Mr. Murdoch has both an interesting life--and a good wife.
Indeed, Mrs. Murdoch's conduct was so noteworthy, that the panel chairman observed wryly, "Mr. Murdoch, your wife has a very good left hook."
I think it'd be safe to say that at least last Tuesday, Mr. Murdoch did not have a dull day--on several counts! Here, take a look for yourself!
