You'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
You hear a lot about "social media" these days...social media this, social media that. And don't get me wrong, I' not saying that it is trivial or unimportant. However, most of the time I'm pretty sure that it is very misunderstood
And how could circumstances be much different? After all there was a time when all the hype we see surrounding social media was--back when they represented communication innovations--true for telephones and fax machines and cable TV...you get the point! What what about the new media?
It takes time to get perspective.
Of course, we now longer get especially excited about, say, the fax machine as a medium of communication or marketing, for in business we understand it better for what it is capable of, and employ it as a device for what seems, today at least, quite natural.
Although someday we will, we haven't yet arrived at that point regarding social media. And, in the meantime, a lot of false beliefs and misguided commercial expectations exist about it.
