Friday, July 9, 2010 at 3:11PM An ingenious job-finding strategy! One that actually worked--all for the total cost of a whopping $6!
Here's a story of how to stand out and then get hired.
It is a sad reality of the economic climate we're presently in that I get a fair number of people asking me for help in finding a new position--all after being down-sized, laid-off, let-go, bought-out, or just fired. Indeed, some of my young friends are in the process of looking for their first job out of college!
And the question for all ends up being this: "How does one go about getting the attention of the right people--the right person--at a time when a lot of other individuals are trying to do the same thing." That's the right question; what the answer is is the big-deal issue to wrestle with. Enter Alec Brownstein.
In asking for the job, Mr. Brownstein demonstrated his abilities.
Alec Brownstein, copywriter, needed a job--around the very time that other copywriters were being laid-off! But his job-hunting plan was not complicated but got the job done perfectly. Here's his story simply told in a 60 second YOUTUBE clip:
It's a great story--admittedly one that depends on the vanity of the people he was most interested in speaking with--but one that draws on--and at the same time demonstrates--the creativity of Mr. Brownstein. The point of this story here should also serve as the impetus and the inspiration for others to copy, if not the exact strategy, such an original approach when necessary!

[I'm pleased to point out that Francis Doehner, a bright young exec at SmithBarney in NYC, a Bryant University alum in finance, and valued friend of mine, called this story to my attention--for which I was appreciative. He also pointed me to a Huffington Post story about Mr. Brownstein as well. He may be reluctant to be publicly noted as a reader of keithmurrayONBIZ.com, so I'll not go that far, but thanks Francis--it's always nice to "hear" from you! I always welcome other readers to make such interesting and note-worthy suggestions for future blog posts!]
