Making money on British Petroleum's difficulties: Is it possible? You bet!

In the world of commerce--all is fair in love and war.

More than once at our house--yes, we have more than our share of business-geek conversations at the dinner table and while watching television news--the following questions have come up more than few times:  Will the Gulf disaster bankrupt BP?  What will it cost BP to make things right?  Will consumers boycott BP in a way that hurts them on land as well as under water?

Who's really surprised, but the stock market, at least, has decided to shun BP!  Indeed, it looks like the stock price of BP's taken a huge hit--maybe too much of a hit if you're a finance-type who's looking for a bargain.  What's occurred on Wall Street may be exactly what spells o-p-p-o-r-t-u-n-i-t-y, if not exactly for BP, maybe for you.  In yesterday's Wall Street Journal Brett Arends wrote a very intriguing article, "BP disaster:  What investors need to know."

Are you an investor?  Speculator?   By-stander?

In that article--which I highly recommend you take a look at--he "does the math" on what's the right financial adjustments might be [obviously in a theoretically sense], and, lays out a very credible scenario on how you could as either as a speculator or an investor--admittedly an investor with a bottle or two of Maalox or nerves of steel--do very well when all the oil stops flowing.

Even if you don't see yourself as a financial wizard--the "read" is interesting and gives you a glimpse into the world of financial wizards and investors.  At a miniumum what he writes is instructive--at best, it could prove to be profitable.
