How one commercial makes a difference and saves lives in the process: In praise of individual talent.

It's one of the most-viewed clips on YOUTUBE.

What this is about is the one-man inspired "Embrace Life" campaign that encourages people to use safety belts when driving.  The individual is Daniel Cox who was inspired to propose a fundamentally simple, new approach to getting a sometimes resistant part of the population to pay attention to the need for using safety restraints--not from a fear point of view, but a positive perspective.  Here, if you having seen it before, you can see for yourself...

What makes this ad especially note-worthy is that in an age of relentless waves of focus-groups, crowd-sourcing, and committee group-think, it was conceived by one individual who "saw" what was called for, "pitched" it, and got the job done.  While it called for some intense lighting requirements, it was nonetheless completed without an expensive advertising agency on a very, very modest budget.  What makes the workproduct in this case so ingenious is the positive emotional response that replaces the standard fear-of-dying impulse that is evoked by virtually all other ads in the genre!

We still live in a world where one person can make a difference.

While we are increasingly compelled to work in a complex world of inter-locking stages of process which, in turn, involve what seems like an endless number of sign-off constituencies to please, here's an example of a compelling idea, simply translated into a video message that transforms the thoughts and feeling of those who take it in.  What an testament this should be to those who still have a belief in the possibility of a single person working, on occasion, with a great concept to make a difference in the world of ideas and human behavior.

In the case, of Daniel Cox, I bet the influence of his great-idea-turned-into-a-powerful-message has saved lives.  Now that makes it really cool!
