Monday, April 5, 2010 at 5:31PM OnBiz QUIZ: What works better: small business or big government?
Why you should know the answer to this question?
This is a central question in today's environment: what fosters economic prosperity--to get our neighbor a job, to lead to our country's financial well-being, to enrich our own pocketbooks? The answer is--from a historical, data-driven point of view--clear and unambiguous. The right answer to this question is paramount to getting a lot of public policy, regulatory, social, and taxation decisions right. If you live in the U.S. and care enough because you [A] have an interest in what's going [or not going] on, [B] talk to others about the well-being of our current financial system, [C] have [or will, someday, have] children who'll likely live beyond you, or [D] you vote. This question is a very important one to know the answer to!
How to get smart ON BIZ issues that are important!
Our economy and financial systems are, needless to say, complex. However, what "drives" those huge systems need not be a mystery. A friend--indeed, a politically leaning liberal friend--of mine called my attention to Tom Friedman's most recent observation on the matter. If you take less than five minutes to read what he wrote, you'll understand what most people, unfortunately, don't--but should. If you've read this far, be on notice that I've taken away the last excuse at least for you not to.
“Start-ups, not bailouts,” by Thomas L. Friedman, New York Times, April 4, 2010.

What’s behind the BIZ QUIZ?
The BIZ QUIZ is different from an ordinary “blog”—it’s less about my opinion and more about what I’ve found that I think you might find both interesting and informative. The OnBiz QUIZ is posted every now and then so I can share an especially interesting article I’ve come across or book I’m reading—all easy to “get,” interesting, readily understandable, and mostly about commerce and business in all of its wonderful and splendid variations.
