OnBiz Predictions for 2010, Part I: Consumer trends in 2010

First prediction:  A week ahead of trends on keithmurrayONBIZ.

ON BIZ begins the New Year with a "predictions week" that will look at what experts see for the immediate future.  Today some signals on the consumer front with a look at three areas including weddings, restaurants, and recalls.

It appears that the economic slow-down has created a coming wake of trends exemplified by these categories that could well be true for others...

  • Pent-up demand for post-poned purchases [in the case of today's clip, weddings]
  • Down-sized price tags and expectation for smalled outlays [events, dining out]
  • More wholesome, authentic products [locally produced goods, healthier offerings]
  • Continuing expectation of safe and defect-free products [increased number of recalls]
  • More attention to products tailored to children

Tomorrow:  A look at social trends in 2010.

Hi Dr Murray,

Happy New Year! I have enjoyed reading up on the Consumer Trends and it got me to find this link from Nielsen & Co on their top Consumer Spending Trends for 2010 with regard to retailers.
Great post!
Erin
